ELECTRONIC FLORA - Ekshärad

Electronic Flora - Ekshärad is based on recordings of electrical activity from red-stemmed feathermoss, Pleurozium schreberi, in Ekshärad in Värmland in Sweden. Point of departure for this work is the painting Motiv från Ekshärad (1937) by the Swedish artist Stefan Johansson (1876-1955).

The electrical signals from the red-stemmed feathermoss is transmitted through a modular synthesizer and dictates melodies, notes and rhythms in the music. The electrical signals also provide cues for video editing. The moss is also portrayed through a detailed graphite drawing.

This work was commissioned by Värmlands museum for their exhibition Insyn&Utblick.
