ELECTRONIC FLORA - TELEMARK

Electronic Flora - Telemark is based on recordings of electrical activity from plants in Kviteseid in Telemark, Norway. Point of departure for this work is the painting Fra Kviteseid i Telemark (1900) by Norwegian landscape painter Thorvald Erichsen (1868-1939). This painting represents a breaking point in Norwegian landscape painting where nature no longer should be reproduced but represented.

This work includes recordings of ten different plants where the electrical activity is transmitted through modular synthesizers and dictates melodies, notes and rhythms in the music. The electrical signals also provide cues for video editing. Each plant is also portrayed through detailed graphite drawings.
